Budva. Top-10 attractions

Budva is rich in interesting sights and gorgeous viewing points inside the city and its surroundings:

1. The Old Town

The small streets of the Old Town of Budva are crowded with cafe tables and souvenir shops. Here you can take an atmospheric walk, have a cozy dinner or explore the sights.
  • The most famous of them is the Citadel. Entry fee is 3.5 euros. This is the oldest historical monument with a Maritime Museum.
  • In the old town there are temples: the Church of the Holy Trinity and the Church of St. John. Available for free visiting.
  • The city walls deserve special attention. They are only open during the season (May-October), and if you are there during this time, be sure to visit. The walls offer a completely different view of the old city and seascapes.

2. Sculpture "Dancer from Budva" and Mogren beach

Located right at the exit of old town. Here the bustle and crowdedness give way to tranquility and unity with nature.
You can take very beautiful photographs of sea waves crashing on the rocky shore. But you should stay away during bad weather: the path to the beach is very narrow and in a storm it is completely covered by waves.

3. Sveti Stefan

A walk from Budva to the island of Sveti Stefan and back is almost a whole day's activity. And you need to go by foot. After all, this is the only way to:
  • enjoy endless sea views;
  • get to know the local beaches, which, although close by, are all so different: Becici, Rafailovici, etc.;
  • sit on a shaded bench in the forest and breathe in the air filled with the aroma of tree bark heated in the sun.
The island itself is a closed hotel. Tourists can enter it only once a year. But the walk to it is worth it to go. And you can always get back by bus.

4. St. Nicholas Island

This is for everyone who wants a full program. You can rent a yacht and go on an individual excursion. You can join a group tour: there are different options, including a visit to Sveti Stefan and Mogren beach. Cost - from 5 to 20 euros.
The boat trip itself and just the view of Budva and the Old Town from the water is mesmerizing!

5. Kosmats Fortress

Kosmac Fortress is a 19th century Austrian fortress located halfway between Budva and Cetinje. You can get there by bus and get off at the village of Braichi.
The road from the stop to the fortress will take you about 20 minutes with a very slight climb. The views from here are absolutely stunning! Although the fortress itself is already in a very deplorable state and, probably, it is better not to get carried away with studying it from the inside - everything is very shaky.

6. Rustovo Monastery

The female Orthodox monastery of Rustovo, the monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos (“Mother of God”) is located in the village of Chelobrdo. You can get here by foot along the Yegorova Trail or by car.
You can enter the monastery only by ringing the bell at the entrance. A nun will meet you and take you inside, show you everything and tell you everything. Don't be shy, you're all welcome here.
The place is incredibly cozy, warm, atmospheric. And also very, very beautiful, with gorgeous views of the coast of Budva. At the monastery there is a shop with interesting goods of its own production and a large, well-groomed area for recreation.
From an observation deck, which is reachable by the Egorova trail, you can watch the the beautiful sunset overlooking the coast and Budva. The ascent along the trail begins at the island of Sveti Stefan and takes about 1-1.5 hours.
After the climb, you can continue your walk to the above mentioned Rustovo Monastery.

8. Cape Zavala

This is a peninsula located between Budva and Becici. A quiet, natural place that offers special views of the old town of Budva and the island of St. Nicholas. It almost looks like you could reach them by hand. Very recommended!

9. Stanevichi Monastery

This Orthodox monastery is located in the vicinity of Budva, in the mountains, behind the village of Pobori. You can get here by car or, if you are active and adventurous enough, by foot. Then the journey will take about 3 hours one way, quite steep in places. The ascent to the monastery begins in the Podostrog area. Enjoy the beautiful views from here - good weather condition provided.

10. The Monastery of Podmaine

The monastery is located in the Podostrog region. From the Old Town of Budva to the monastery it takes 30-40 minutes by foot, uphill. There are 2 churches on the vicinity of the monastery:
  • The Great Church of the Assumption was restored and painted again in the late 20th-early 21st century.
  • The terrace of the Little Assumption Church offers beautiful views of the surrounding area.
